EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CONSISTENCY

My wife and I will celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary this November. We have been blessed with two sons. My eldest recently graduated from Clear Lake High School and is currently studying at Mendocino College. My youngest is a Sophomore also at Clear Lake High School. I am an avid hiker and am currently hiking a six peak challenge, which I have finished two of the peaks so far. I have the pleasure of organizing and participating in a Turkey Bowl, in Lakeport, on Thanksgiving morning and this will be our tenth year consecutively. It is my opinion, I have some of the best staff in the County. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your current Assessor-Recorder.
When I took office, I anticipated there would be many challenges to solve. These included staffing, training, technical knowledge of staff and the addition of technology to produce results that were efficient and cost effective. I anticipated that it would take ten years to completely achieve these results. The current volume of work is continual and leaves only limited time to resolve the backlog that I inherited. In spite of limited time, we have reduced the backlog by approximately 75% and anticipate eliminating the backlog completely within the next few years. We have experienced challenges that no one could anticipate, fires, Covid and under-market wages. Regardless of these challenges, many of our goals have still been achieved. We will continue to strive towards our future goals.
These goals are to implement a new Recorder's Software package, E-Recording of Documents, Public Kiosk, Increase use of system modules to streamline processes in the Property Tax software and further increase the technical knowledge of staff.
We are not perfect and it is good to reflect on where we could have done better but I am very proud of my team and could not have achieved these goals without their help and heart. Below are a few highlights of our achievements:
Increase in certified staff.
Decrease in employee turnover
Substantial reduction in backlog of appeals and valuations
